A start up with an ambition to create social impact
Our ambition is to write a new story on global dual careers that sees mobile employees and their partners as 'two-in-a-box.' We aim to unleash the untapped potential of accompanying partners with aspirations to grow and contribute. By creating a platform for global professionals on the move, we enable this group to take conscious life choices, connect with resource persons - and share their skills, talent and knowledge with others.You may say that we strive to eliminate the 'talent waste' we see globally when a huge group of highly skilled professionals are under-utilised - or even perceived as a problem. The latter is described as the 'dual career issue' - that mobile employees are less likely to accept international assignments due to the negative career impact on their significant other. With compensation packages getting smaller and the rising need to also deploy employees to more challenging positions, spouse career concerns was rated as the second highest reason for assignment refusal in Brookfield Relocations 2015 Global Relocation Trends Survey.
We prefer to call it 'the dual career opportunity'. We talk about global development paths. Resonant relationships. Boosting a growth mindset. Our key words are capacity building and sharing of competencies between global professionals. And here is how we do it.
Partnering with globally minded organisations
We collaborate with HR professionals and management teams across sectors that acknowledge the need to attend to the real life concerns of a mobile work force. We offer 1-1 and group sessions on transition, cultural intelligence, sustaining a CV and professional identity before, during and at end of assignment to ensure engagement throughout the expatriation cycle.
We team up to organise events on personal and professional development that connect young and experienced professionals. Our teams allow for partners to initiate, execute and lead activities to benefit people holding a global outlook and growth mindset.
Sharing skills and competencies is part of the here we are global DNA and one of the ways in which we create social impact. We build capacity and encourage a global work life. We create openings to learn, work and volunteer.Quite a number of organisations are involved in our activities worldwide. To name a few, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UNICEF are actively partnering with us and we work together with a broad range of companies, NGOs and advisors to further refine our services. We conduct 'pitstops' in collaboration with Spousecare and plan to have more individual consultants contribute as we grow.
Sharing opportunities - online and offline
We believe that opportunities come when you position yourself for them to happen and take initiative. We are currently developing our digital platform/app that will enable users to design a global development path and consciously build competencies in specific life areas. An enriching global life is more than hard skills and paid work. It is also about building character, communicating, playing, learning languages and staying balanced in the stormy seas of transition and change. It is about making a difference to others.
The here we are competency matrix urges us to 'See life in brighter colours' and the Opportunity Board offers concrete options for short or long term assignments, support to NGOs and start ups and voluntary work that directly add value to a global CV.
While technology can only be an enabler of change, we are convinced that smaller groups of supportive peers are equally important for global professionals on the move. Our Focal Points are active members raising their hand to connect people and ideas. Some groups turn into country teams, others to virtual communities of practice.
